Nicolas Sarkozy does not want the proposed development by UMP.
The relaxation of rules of penalty points, decided by senators and MPs, will, ultimately, very marginal. Nicolas Sarkozy has told his majority UMP did not want these facilities, officials said Thursday parliamentary sources.
“A bad signal”
Dominique Bussereau, Secretary of State for Transport, had already responded in that Thursday morning, saying on Thursday on RMC, it was “wrong signal”. “We are on a good trend that can allow us to achieve the target set by Nicolas Sarkozy, who is 3,000 deaths per year (…) If we lower our system of severity, it can lead to negative consequences” , he added.
“The figures for July were not good, the figures in August were exceptionally good, this is why as Minister in charge of road safety, I am not in favor of these provisions, “he added.
No “message lax”
The president, who said Thursday he would never “message lax 'on road safety, had made its trade-offs earlier in the day, parliamentary sources said. He frowned and most of the measures decided the day before – which were below the relaxation voted in mid-September by the Senate, against the advice of the government – by the UMP in the Committee on Laws.
In particular the possibility of recovering the full 12 points in the driver's license within two years (instead of one year passed the Senate and three years in the current legislation) provided that no offense has occurred during this period.
He also said he did not support another amendment UMP adopted as part of the bill on Security (Loppsi 2), allowing drivers to complete an internship recovery points (four points maximum placement) per year against a once every two years now.
Restitution points more flexible
Only measure on which the Head of State seems willing to accept a change: the return of one point per year. The six-month period desired by the senators and deputies UMP is not supported by the Elysee, but the return of a percentage point per year will not be limited only to offenses involving the removal of a single point but also concern other offenses (loss of two points, three points …).
